The market price of natural diamonds has been strongly influenced by supply control from De Beers—once managing 80–90% of global distribution and still holding around a 40% share. While some rare stones like fancy colors are produced only in tiny quantities, for most diamonds—aside from certain high grades—scarcity is not solely determined by low production volume. If scarcity is driven by supply control, then reconsidering the notion of “natural-diamond rarity” makes sense. Choosing lab-grown diamonds with the same composition at more accessible prices can be a smart decision.
